Origin
It was girded in Persian Gabbeh and Turkoman tribal weaves traditions and is handwoven by Ayna carpet weavers in northern Afghanistan. It is using centuries of pastoral motives and agricultural designs that are intended to induce harmony, shelter, and the cycle of nature with flamboyant symbolism and systematic structure.
Materials
This rug is hand-woven of 100 per cent hand-spun Ghazni wool and then dyed with natural German pigments and made with vegetable and mineral dyes. Its lanolin fibres result in soft gloss and natural appeal of the wool. The density and durability of its fibre guarantee durability, whereas the fibres are biodegradable and toxin-free, which makes it a sustainable as well as breathable option that could be used in any environment.
Design
The structure of the rug is a grid of rectangular pieces with a variety of tribal floral, tree-of-life or boteh forms specific to each piece. The rug is surrounded by a highly detailed border of stylised foliage and flower garlands, and the field is a deep rust and navy with cream, ochre and coffee green accents.
Craftsmanship
Each of these knots is thoughtfully and clearly conceived and executed by experienced Ayna weavers in hand-knotting on vertical looms. The knot density and precision can be seen on the pattern of the clear backside. The Selvages are doubly woven, while the fringes are worked by hand which, combined with hand-knotting, provides durability and makes the rug idea of an heirloom of the coming generations to use and appreciate.
Heritage
Ayna carpets are those brimming with centuries of nomadic living and narratives. Garden-grid design represents fertility, symmetry and tribal memory. Each panel is a chapter, each motif a nature/spirit token. This work combines the living traditions with the beauty of a designer or the design that is anchored in the heritage of the past.
Ground your space in artisan heritage—this olive garden rug by Ayna marries symbolic history with modern craftsmanship for a naturally captivating centrepiece.
