Origin
This carpet draws on the background of the ancient tradition of Gabbeh and garden culture in the southwestern part of Persia in Central Asia. Hand-woven by Ayna artisans in the northern region of Afghanistan, it is a modern recreation of the historic panel-style pattern design with tribal motives that comprises spiritual equilibrium and harmony of nature, as well as agriculture, through the gossamer detail and thought-provoking symmetry.
Materials
It is made of 100 per cent hand-spun Ghazni wool, dyed with natural pigments (based on vegetables and minerals). It is a dense texture, or you can say that there is a little roughness to it with its natural lustre. The wool is hardwearing with the capability of being breathable, providing functionality and beauty. The colours become mellow with the novelty of time, as various colours fade naturally, giving them character and vintage style.
Design
Its structure is composed of an entire field of garden panels conceived in rectangular form, each with its own distinctive florals, birds, leaves, or botehs of tribal design. Dotted with a floral band is the patchwork in the centre of it. The colour spectrum comprises denim blue, rust, gold, olive, ivory and ruby red and provides lively contrast and rhythm of vision.
Craftsmanship
The knots are made one by one by hand on customary wood looms by experienced Ayna weavers. The reverse side has distinct outlines of motives and density of the fine weave, which testifies to the artisan qualities. The knotted fringes and reinforced selvedges provide structural durability of this piece so that generations of people can use it as a useful heirloom.
Heritage
Ayna rugs can save the traditions of nomads and villages as all symbolism of prosperity, defence, and nature through the seasons is infused into each square knitted. The garden-grid idea is the order in the chaos; it is a meditative metaphor in garment language. This carpet preserves the traditions of ancient storytelling and art, but is adjusted to the current room.
Infuse your space with cultural richness and grid-like harmony—this Ayna garden rug balances vivid colours, historic motifs, and modern craft in one grounded masterpiece.
