Origin
This rug is handwoven in the classic Chobi style of northwest Pakistan, and is a commemoration of centuries of nomadic storytelling in pattern and pigment. The nature, universe, and family are the subjects of its tribal design language. The artisan devotion in every knot portrays village looms that embrace ancestral means of work, and this is an act of heritage of culture, a modern-day heirloom.
Materials
This rug is made by utilising all wool, which is hand spun and dyed using natural vegetable dyes, a very environmentally friendly rug. The wool has soft springiness underfoot, and the dyeing process is all natural, so they develop building patina and dimensional richness over time. No synthetics, but only things that will compost and last a long time, like in a sustainable and eco-friendly building.
Design
The field is filled with such a fury of geometric medallions, blossoms, tribal rosettes, and angular vines as are set against a background of grounding black. A generous border of brick red with stylised pomegranates and vines is used with accents of sky and indigo animating the whole composition to illustrate the story. There is a harmony of colours, the visual rhythm.
Craftsmanship
All of the details are hand-knit by skilled artisans, and it takes months of work. The accuracy of the knot density, symmetrical position and the well-done small details of the reverse all speak highly of the workmanship. The reinforced edges and tightly done fringes give it a good life, and a strong rhythmical play of the rug gives evidence of great craft versus fantasy.
Heritage
The Turkoman, the Persian and the Caucasian world, when combined, have resulted in the formation of the chobi rugs, woven by generations upon generations of craftsmen within the highland villages. They are not just decorations, but symbols of heritage, protection, and pride as well. That spirit is, in a way, piped through this rug, which is floor art that can be lived and breathed upon as a cultural record.
Bring structure, symbolism, and warmth to your home with this hand-knotted Chobi rug—a vibrant heirloom that bridges tribal storytelling and contemporary sophistication.
