Origin
This Chobi rug is an expression of a new ikat/floral style emerging out of the artisanal looms of northern Afghanistan. It has cultural origins, but it is reinvented with modern style, and it is hand-woven in small village workshops employing the hand-down styles.
Materials
With the use of 100 per cent hand-spun natural-colour wool naturally dyed with vegetable pigments, durable beauty and the sensual feel of the material are guaranteed on this rug. Those strands are then hand knotted meticulously, resulting in a medium-pile soft but durable surface which bears the wear without looking aged, but rather developing a unique patina as the years pass by.
Design
The symmetrical pattern is surrounded by two outstanding floral medallions and is composed of black and ivory striped ikat-style ground. The trend combines modern-day Central Asian patterns with vivid shades of play, thus resulting in a colourful, creative focal point of the small rooms.
Craftsmanship
The knots are all hand-tied separately by skilled hands, producing a high level of detailing and stability. Upon turning the rug over, one will be able to see its dense and uniform knot-matrix, which is the hallmark of hand-knotting skills. It is completed in multicoloured fringe knots, and addresses a finely put-together ability as well as an artisan nature.
Heritage
This Chobi rug is an embodiment of a fusion between the traditions and contemporary visual language. The ikat influence on the textile history has been all over Central Asia, and the medallions have been used as references to ancient floral cosmology. It is not decoration but a cultural story inside and out.
Revitalise your space with this hand-knotted Chobi rug—where ancestral motifs meet contemporary form through bold contrasts and sustainable craftsmanship.
