Origin
This hand-knotted Chobi rug is woven in the weaving tradition of Northern Pakistan, and the skilful artisans combine Persian and Turkoman elements of design. Following the pattern of flourishing nature, its creation forms an up-to-date evolution of classical gardens of flowers. All of this is woven in small workshops with an entrenched cultural and aesthetic meaning.
Materials
This rug is 100 per cent hand-woven wool that has been dyed with natural vegetable colours, hand-spun, making it environmentally responsible and durable. A lanolin-rich texture of the wool makes it even less rough and unyielding. As the rug gets older, its colours get a polite patina, adding complexity to the rug and to its character, but not losing any integrity of its woven material.
Design
On a smooth turquoise ground, the rug presents an asymmetrical flower pattern that has partly blossomed rosettes and vines with leafy growth and stylised shrubs. The juxtaposition of the deep navy border and warm marigold, rust and ivory tones filling the field makes the composition look very tangible, with the organic shapes framed in an attractive equilibrium.
Craftsmanship
Individual knots are hand-tied in each of these rugs to display perfection and the high-quality artisanship of the Chobi artisans. The stability of knot frequencies and sharpness of motif contours are also signs of the quality of work. The use of reinforced selvedges and fringes makes the durability of this rug perfect, which is applicable on a daily basis and also as decorations.
Heritage
Chobi rugs have a reputation for being the most versatile, because of their ingenious mixing of tribal style and contemporary elegance. This work has its roots in nomadic culture, whereas the ancient floral patterns are turned into contemporary art. It encompasses both history and ecology and the crafts, thus making it a living story object that manages to connect across the generations, due to its textural connectivity, meaningful symbolism, and authenticity.
Invite life and natural rhythm into your space with this hand-knotted Chobi rug—where flowering vines and time-honoured technique blossom into a modern masterpiece.
