Origin
This runner belongs to the tribal weaving part of Afghanistan, where their hand-knotting skills have been handed down through the generations. Inspired by the classical Caucasian Kazak style, this artwork includes the real tribal images with strong contrasts, which respond to the cultural tradition of the weavers and the skillfulness of the weavers.
Materials
This rug is made of 100% hand-spun wool using natural vegetable dyes, and provides a rich, organic character. The wool gives strength and warmth, and the natural pigments guarantee a lovely aged patina over time. It is hard-wearing, as well as environmentally friendly.
Design
The carpet features unbroken medallions, flowery and geometric designs in a very bright red colour. These symbols alternate between navy and ivory entities and are framed using a cream and blue striped border that has balance and rhythm. It is tribal in artistry, and its symmetrical layout is very detailed.
Craftsmanship
All knots are tied by hand by Afghan craftsmen carefully and skillfully. The heavy knitting ensures durability, which makes it suitable in areas that are likely to be visited frequently, such as in corridors and entryways. Its plain edges, uniform designs, and bright colors show the high expertise and efforts that went into making it.
Heritage
This Kazak runner is not only something beautiful but also a preserver of stories: the stories of a wandering existence, the beliefs of tribes, and strength. These are the motifs of protection and prosperity, and the long form makes it ideal to tell that story in a long corridor or hallway.
An authentic Afghan Kazak runner—rich in symbolism, handcrafted tradition, and enduring tribal beauty.
