Origin
It is a handcrafted treasure of Caucasus-influenced weaving regions in Afghanistan, where the Kazak designs are replicated by the skilled hands of artisans. Each work of art is a narrative of a nomadic way of life, a symbolic depiction, and a local craft that links the hands of the weaver with the centuries-long heritage of their culture.
Materials
Woven of 100 hand-spun wool bases, which were taken over by local flocks, this carpet has artistic patterns that offer rich but rustic hues drawn in natural vegetable dyes. These fibers in the wool that contain lanolin make the piece durable with a slight shine. The pigments soften gracefully with age, becoming full-bodied and acquiring character.
Design
The carpet features a traditional Kazak design of a central diamond-shaped medallion in cream on red, and high border decoration of eight-pointed stars and horns of rams, and the tribal symbols. The soft, inviting, muted blue-green background serves as a comfortable contrasting canvas to the bulky geometrical shapes and meticulous details.
Craftsmanship
Master weavers hand-tie each knot in this rug and continue the centuries-old techniques. The fabric is heavy and tight with the sharpness of the intricate design. Its craftsmanship is reflected by hand-loomed fringe details and hand-finished borders. This is a rug that will last as well as it will endear.
Heritage
Kazak rugs are the living histories of the tribal identity of the Caucasus nation, and one of the motifs represents strength, protection, or prosperity. To have such a rug is to have a part of history, a material relation to the life of the nomadic weavers and the timeless poetry of their language of symbols.
A timeless Kazak rug where bold geometry, ancient symbolism, and artisanal mastery converge.
