Origin
Handmade in the North of Afghanistan, the Bokhara runner is made in the traditions of Turkmen tribal design. Medallion and geometrical discipline are the characteristics of Bokhara carpets. Generation after generation, this rug has been a testament to the culture of this nomadic weaving and the rich and strong love of symmetry and story.
Materials
This item is hand-woven using hand-spun Afghan wool, which is a product of mountain sheep, and is naturally dyed, which provides intense colors that are durable. The lanolin content of the wool creates a warming sheen and fluffy feel to the surface and also makes the rug strong, supple, and one that can be used in high-traffic areas such as passageways and doorway entrances.
Design
The runner has a decorum of octagonal finish medallions with complex diamond florets created in the center. Dark crimson red is the background, which is superimposed with navy blue and warm amber decorations. There is also a stepped border with accompanying latticework and triangular vine shapes, which adds a sort of a structural contrast and visual rhythm to the length of the border.
Craftsmanship
This hand-knotted rug was meticulously hand knotted with a 50x50 knot density and is an example of wove artisan skilled warriors and weavers of Afghanistan. The uniformity of pile height, tightness of knots and alignment of motifs makes it keep its shape and detailing decades to come. Every carpet represents a work of tradition that was made using generational expertise and attention.
Heritage
Bokhara decorations are Turkoman unusual forms of combining geometry and spirituality, which are popular all over the world. This runner is a legacy of the same, acting not only as decor he is also a source of culture. The existence of it in an area is a symbol of continuity, endurance and the beauty of Afghan culture.
