Origin

This rug is a modern handcrafted version of traditional Mumlook design and is handwoven in Afghanistan by artisans who are experts in tribal weaving. Based on centuries of local handwork, the work unites geometry with contemporary non-symmetry. Behind every knot is a history- ancient symbology is maintained, and yet unpredictable moments of the eye are opened by moving with the color fields.

Materials

Made of 100 per cent hand-spun Ghazni wool, the rug is dyed in natural vegetal dyes, including indigo, walnut husk, madder root, and pomegranate skin. Non-chemical and the colors age gracefully. The rug contains sheen and resilience due to the high lanolin of Ghazni wool.

Design

The rug composition has three overlapping medallions, with floral latticework and borders of panels on the sides. It has a painterly energy with background areas screaming in deep navy, crimson, and saffron splashes. Fine patterns such as stars, diamonds, and crosses stabilize the chaos by making up a harmonizing and balanced pattern.

Craftsmanship

This rug is knotted tightly and with extreme accuracy, and both sides of the rug are just as visible. The motif, the border and the medallion are all positioned purposively.
