Origin
Crafted by hand in the weaving centers of Northern Afghanistan, this Shaal rug is the result of a tradition of weaving that extends across generations. The vertical stripe, along with the geometric-floral geometric repetition, inspired by nomadic tribal expressions, applauds not only the identity and long-standing inspired culture, but also leads to the creation of an object both truly timeless and incredibly versatile.
Materials
The handcrafted rug is made of high-quality hand-spun Ghazni wool with 100 percent natural botanical dyes, producing a rich sheen and strong structure. It's perfect crimson, tea, and gold are achieved by careful layering of madder root, pomegranate rind, and indigo. It is environmentally-friendly as it is completely free of chemicals and exceptionally luxurious to the touch downstairs.
Design
The field of the rug is done in alternating narrow stripes, one with geometric and the other with different floral decoration, and a bold crimson frame. Its edge, of teal and sky blue colour, has dramatised bloats and vine scrolls which generate visual variability. Cool accents and golden accents are in harmony, creating understated opulence and depth, and creating contrast.
Craftsmanship
High density and accurate weaving create high definition and level texture in this expertly hand-knotted Shaal rug. It is made with traditional fringe tassels and reinforced selvedges, so it not only lasts but is also beautiful. Even pile and fine knotwork show the desire of the artisan to retain time-tested weaving traditions in a modern era.
Heritage
The design is deeply rooted in the history of tribal storytelling in which the stripe manner represents the journey in life, and the flowers filled in the border represent the security and rebirth. These patterns served both practical identity purposes (in the shape of practical identity markers) and spiritual significance in the historical shaping of nomadic weaving. The rug reflects this legacy in the present day by beautifying spaces today with its combination of cultural imagery and craftsmanship.
A tapestry of heritage and color—this Shaal rug is a woven journey in crimson and teal.
