Origin
This Northern Afghanistan Shaal rug was handwoven by master weavers, and it is representative of a tribal artisanal tradition. Inspired by the Caucasian and Persian stripe traditions, the design combines them into a unity that reconciles aesthetic accuracy with allegorical narration, providing a magnificent ornamented emanation and a system of symbols. Because of this, the design is a perfect choice to decorate the living space of anyone fascinated with heritage textiles.
Materials
Made out of superior-grade Ghazni hand-spun wool, strands are colored with natural botanical dyes such as pomegranate, walnut husk, and even madder root. They are vibrant, long-lasting dyes and are environmentally friendly. The rug has a soft and dense pile that is fully chemical-free, biodegradable, and capable of withstanding years of use.
Design
The composition is based on using alternating vertical bands of complex florals, meandering vines, and stylized waves in jewel hues. The stripes are framed by a deep ruby field that is bordered by teal on the outer and gold on the inner. Small tribal symbols appear in the field around the stripes. The color combination of warm colors and cool ones establishes a visual depth, and it is grounded and alive.
Craftsmanship
Fine knot density gives us this piece, which shows the artisanal precision in clarity of the detail and also the crispness of the line. Durable reinforced selvedges and hand-knotted fringes are used. Its tight proportions make it mix and matchable in spaces such as intimate reading seats and front-door focal points, and yet the honorable heirloom weaving remains.
Heritage
This Shaal rug reflects the aesthetics of nomadic storytelling, with every stripe having some protective or symbolic meaning-rolling streams of water with the symbolisms of life and prosperity, and rosette structures signifying continuity. Not just decor, it is also the breathing connection to the ancient language of tribal weaving in Afghanistan.
Heritage stripes meet ruby elegance in this hand-knotted Shaal masterpiece.
