Origin
Weaved by the masterful weavers of the Shekari of Northern Afghanistan, this masterpiece is based on the classical Persian patterns of a hunting scene. It represents a paradise park with birds floating between flowering trees, reminding us of centuries of royal lore of textiles. Perfect for a connoisseur demanding a history, symbolically and visually poetic collectible rug with a story.
Materials
The soft 100% hand-spun Ghazni wool is dyed with natural pigments using madder root, pomegranate rind, and indigo leaves. The botanical dyes make the lasting, organic colors and are environmentally friendly. The thick texture of the wool pile is soft, floppy, and wear-resistant without feeling the wear and tear like things. This makes the piece last as long as many generations.
Design
The rug, placed on a deep forest-green ground, has good-looking peacocks, cranes, and songbirds gallivanting about flowering trees and green branches. The use of accents in golden and crimson tones, ivory, and sky blue contributes depth and, contrasting with the stains of nature, it adds vibrancy, whilst due to the balanced composition and detail within line work, it makes a tapestry that lives and breathes in harmony of movement.
Craftsmanship
It has a high knot density portrayed in every feather, petal, and branch. There are hand-knotted fringes and strengthened edges. Its plush dimensions would lend itself to formal living rooms or dining areas at least, and entry halls, making any interior a new place almost instantly with the beauty of the Afghan and Persian craft of weaving.
Heritage
Shekari carpets are the treasures of narrative as they carry the traditional hunting scene or code of the garden as a symbol of sufficiency, peace, and liveliness. This composition is like a bridge between the past and present, and it brings into the present the motifs that were previously patronized by noble people. It is an object collector hoping to inherit alive evidence of Central Asian art and the eternal Persian love of nature.
A lush garden of life and beauty, captured in wool by Shekari’s master weavers.
