Origin
The tree-of-life design used in this rug, which is handwoven in Northern Afghanistan using Shekari master weavers, depicts some of the symbolism found in Persian gardens, namely a symbol of prosperity and unending beauty. These elaborate bird shapes and blossom-laden limbs are also influenced by the art of the Safavid era, fusing culture with the detail and craftsmanship of traditional Afghanistan to create evocative pieces of art to be cherished by connoisseurs of design and endearing collectors.
Material
Handmade of pure spun wool with natural dyes of pomegranate rind, madder root, and walnut husk. The botanical dyes produce sumptuous and non-fading colors and are not harmful to the environment. The dense and soft pile is chemical-free, biodegradable, and designed to work through generations of use without losing its elegance.
Design
On a field of deep forest green, there is a blossoming tree, filled with peacocks with their sapphire blue tails, handsome cranes, and songbirds as the flowering trees are filled with red and gold blossoms. Its structure is smooth, its minor vine detail and matching spacing look balanced and harmonious, with the composition itself based on nature and Afghan culture.
Craftsmanship
The tightness of the knot is high, the detail rather smooth, and every feature, every fleck of feather and every petal is well defined and expressive. Fringes are hand-knotted, and selvedges are strong. This is ideally suited to living rooms, studies, or multi-layered spaces; it comprises the splendor of the Afghan weaving tradition in a more manageable medium scale size.
Heritage
The Afghan textile art depicts the tree of life, a symbol of wealth, regeneration, and spiritual development. The integration of peacocks marks immortality and beauty, whereas cranes have the connotation of longevity. The rug may act as decor as well as a cultural heirloom, an object containing narration which will always last long with respect to being woven in wool.
A garden of life and beauty, hand-knotted into Afghan wool mastery.
