Origin
This Tree of Life rug is handwoven in the art. You can therefore easily tell that it is handwoven in the artisanal looms of Northern Afghanistan. This is the tradition of Gabbeh, according to which the motives are the stories. Its art mixes the symbolism of culture and the pastoral setting where there are deer, goats, and birds living alongside luscious trees. A millennium of tradition in knots connects the knots to a timeless work of textile art.
Materials
This rug has a soft, strong, durable pile made of hand-spun wool from Ghazni, which is well known due to its strength and sheen. The earthy concentrations of too-browns are blended beautifully with emerald greens and burgundy knee-dressings, dyed naturally using walnut, indigo and madder root upon the fabric. The rug is non-chemical, environmentally-friendly and of low impact to sustain for generations.
Design
The field of rug is divided, with earth brown hue on the downside, the symbol of land and green colour on top, both of growth and renewal. The proud cypress and flowering trees are stylised, and the miniature animals and birds fill the frame. The stratified symbolism reflects this compatibility with earth and sky and makes a successful blend of geometrical patterns with nature, producing a highly balanced, almost soulful aesthetic.
Craftsmanship
Hand-knotted in high density, everything is described very accurately. The edges of the rug are neatly bonded, whereas the fringe has been hand-finished to make it authentic. The back shows delicate knotwork--fingerprints of first-rate craftsmanship. Constructed to last through even heavy everyday use, it is a blend of classic finesse and utility fit for collector living.
Heritage
The Tree of Life is a prayer of multiplication and persistence in the life of the tribal generation. Animals are represented as a form of guardianship and companionship, and birds represent freedom. Ancestral blessings accompanied this rug, and it turned ancient motifs into significant decor. It not only decorates a room but also saves the spiritual heritage of the generations of the past.
