Origin
Weaved by highly qualified Afghan tribal weavers, the Waziri rug is a centuries-old story of the culture. Its very large size had an economic status in the past as it was used in tribal events and as family tents. Tradition has been continued today, with ease, where heritage artistry has been kept intact on the inside of modern interiors. A classical union of functionality and culture.
Materials
This rug has been made with the help of hand-spun Ghazni wool, which is less prone to damage and has its natural gloss due to organic pigments that are gained through plants, roots and mineral sources. The shades of madder red, indigo blue, saffron and walnut brown mature to shades of wine, navy and rust. Lanolin in wool makes it stronger, stain-resistant, and soft.
Design
With a rich gold ground, a scatter of repeating octagonal medallions in jewel tones- ruby, teal, navy and ivory. The medallions are edged with angular ornamentation and the broad border with blossom-shaped motifs, arrows and tribal totems. The combination of both the intensity of colour and poise is balanced well with a symmetry that will provide depth and an undying taste in appearance.
Craftsmanship
All knots are done by hand, indicating far-reaching patience and accuracy. The rug has a tight weave that makes it last longer, even in high traffic. Hand-braided fringes and other details that add the finishing touch all work in line with authenticity. The back side shows the care and precision of traditional Afghan weavings, which have no two rugs being the same.
Heritage
Waziri rugs have become more than decoration- they are histories of nomadic life. The medallions denote the safeguarding, defence, and wealth, whereas the golden background depicts vitality. When one buys this rug, it becomes the user of an artefact of the tribal history because each knot speaks with a specific meaning and links the current home to the past of previous generations.
A golden tapestry of tradition—woven with meaning, designed to endure.
